Ilex x 'Whoa Nellie' was found as a golden sport on the ever popular 'Nellie Stevens' holly, introduced by Dr. Michael Dirr although it was given its great name by Tony Avent. When these two great plant minds come together, you know this is a special plant. 'Whoa Nellie' has bright golden yellow new growth over top of  the dark green foliage. This gives a dynamic contrast that stands out in the landscape. Give 'Whoa Nellie' a shear if you want even more golden color as the golden color is primarily on the new growth. 'Whoa Nellie' may reach 10-12 ft in height in 10 years.
